Overdue RCD Tests, Emergency Lights That Haven't Been Checked, No Logbook
RCD testing and emergency lighting inspections aren’t optional, they’re a legal requirement for commercial premises under Australian Standards. But for a lot of businesses and property managers, compliance testing is one of those things that gets pushed back, forgotten or handed to a contractor who doesn’t provide the documentation needed to prove it was done. The result is premises that are technically non-compliant, with no paper trail to fall back on if something goes wrong.
Whether you manage a single tenancy or a portfolio of commercial properties, staying on top of RCD and emergency lighting compliance isn’t just about ticking a box. It’s about making sure the safety systems in your premises actually work when they need to.
Here’s what we commonly see:
- RCD testing that’s overdue or has never been formally carried out
- Emergency and exit lighting that hasn’t been tested or serviced in years
- No compliance logbook or documentation from previous testing
- Failed RCDs or emergency lights identified but never followed up or rectified
- Property managers unsure of their obligations or testing intervals
- New tenancy or change of use requiring a full compliance assessment
- Businesses that have received a notice from WorkSafe or a building inspector
A Failed RCD or a Dark Exit Light Isn't Just a Compliance Issue - It's a Safety One
RCDs exist to protect people from electric shock. Emergency and exit lighting exists to get people out of a building safely when the power fails. When these systems aren’t tested regularly, you have no way of knowing whether they’ll actually work when they need to. A failed RCD that hasn’t been identified provides no protection. An emergency light with a dead battery provides no illumination when the power goes out.
Beyond the safety implications, non-compliant premises creates real liability exposure for business owners, landlords and property managers. In the event of an incident, the absence of compliance documentation is not something that’s easy to explain to an insurer, a regulator or a court.

We Test, Report and Rectify - So You Have Everything You Need
A compliance testing visit from Integrity Power Solutions covers everything required under Australian Standards – carried out properly, documented clearly and completed with minimal disruption to your business. Here’s how we handle it:
We test every RCD on site
Every RCD and safety switch at the premises is tested in accordance with AS/NZS 3760, with trip times recorded and results documented. Devices that fail testing are identified clearly and rectification options discussed on the day.
We inspect and test all emergency and exit lighting
Every emergency and exit light fitting is tested for correct operation, adequate illumination and battery performance in accordance with AS 2293. Faults are identified, documented and, where instructed, rectified during the same visit.
We update or establish your compliance logbook
Every test result is recorded in a compliance logbook that stays with the premises. If no logbook exists, we’ll establish one. This is your evidence of compliance, for insurers, building inspectors, WorkSafe and future tenants or buyers.
We advise on anything that needs attention
If RCDs are failing, emergency lights have dead batteries or fittings need replacement, we’ll tell you clearly what’s required, what it will cost and how urgently it needs to be addressed. No pressure, just a straight assessment.
We can schedule your next test
Compliance testing needs to happen at regular intervals, annually for most commercial premises. We can schedule your next test in advance so it doesn’t get forgotten and your premises stays continuously compliant.

Harrison and Integrity Power Solutions Pty Ltd have been fantastic to work with. I had several electrical matters that I wanted and needed attending to in my home. Harrison provided a courteous and professional initial engagement via email, which then extended through in-person quoting and job completion. Harrison was on time, responsive, knowledgeable and able to offer advice to any relevant query thrown his way. The completed work was completed to a very high standard with all areas (being most rooms in my home) respectfully left tidy after after works were completed. I wouldn't hesitate to ask Harrison and Integrity Power Solutions to undertake any future electrical work that may be required in my home. Thank you for a job well done!Posted on Google![]()

Don't Wait for an Incident to Find Out Your Compliance Testing Is Overdue
Book a compliance assessment with a licensed Perth electrician. We'll test your RCDs and emergency lighting, provide full documentation and let you know exactly where you stand.
1. How often do RCDs need to be tested?
Under AS/NZS 3760, the testing interval depends on the environment and how the premises is used. For most commercial offices and retail premises, RCD testing is required every 12 months. Higher-risk environments such as construction sites or industrial premises have shorter intervals. We'll advise on the correct interval for your specific premises when we carry out the assessment.
2. How often does emergency lighting need to be tested?
Under AS 2293, emergency lighting requires a functional test every 6 months and a full discharge test every 12 months. The 6-month test confirms each fitting operates correctly. The annual discharge test runs each fitting for its full rated duration, typically 90 minutes, to confirm the battery can sustain illumination for the required period. We carry out both tests and document all results.
3. What happens if an RCD fails testing?
A failed RCD needs to be replaced, it can no longer be relied upon to provide protection. We'll identify any failed devices during testing, explain what's required and can carry out replacements during the same visit or schedule a follow-up depending on the scope. Failed devices are clearly documented in the compliance logbook regardless.
4. What if emergency lights fail the discharge test?
Fittings that fail the discharge test typically have depleted batteries or faulty components. We'll identify what's needed, whether that's a battery replacement, a new fitting or a wiring issue, and provide a clear quote for rectification. Where instructed, we'll carry out repairs on the same visit.
5. Do you provide documentation after testing?
Yes, always. Every test result is recorded in the compliance logbook, including individual RCD trip times, emergency lighting test results and any faults or failures identified. You'll have a complete record of what was tested, when it was tested and what the outcome was. This documentation is your evidence of compliance.
6. We manage multiple properties - can you handle compliance testing across a portfolio?
Yes, and it's something we do regularly for property managers and strata managers across Perth's western suburbs. We can schedule testing across multiple sites, coordinate directly with tenants and provide consolidated reporting for your records. Get in touch to discuss what an ongoing arrangement would look like for your portfolio.
