Staying Compliant Shouldn't Be Something You Have to Think About

Untagged Equipment, Outdated Records, No Idea When Your Last Compliance Check Was Done

Electrical compliance in a commercial environment covers more than most business owners realise. Test and tag, RCD testing, emergency lighting, safety inspections, each has its own testing interval, its own standard and its own documentation requirements. When these things aren’t kept on top of, you end up with premises and equipment that are technically non-compliant, no paper trail to demonstrate due diligence and real exposure if something goes wrong.

For a lot of businesses, the issue isn’t a lack of intention, it’s that compliance testing gets pushed back when things get busy, handed to contractors who don’t provide proper documentation or simply forgotten between visits. We make it straightforward, turning up when scheduled, testing to the correct standard and providing the documentation you need to stay protected.

Here’s what we commonly see:

  • Portable electrical equipment that has never been tested and tagged
  • Test and tag certificates that have lapsed or can’t be located
  • No compliance logbook or inconsistent records from previous contractors
  • Workplaces unsure of their obligations under WA workplace safety legislation
  • New business premises requiring a full compliance baseline assessment
  • Equipment identified as faulty during a previous test but never followed up
  • Businesses that have received a compliance notice from WorkSafe WA

Faulty Equipment, Lapsed Certificates and No Documentation - That's Liability You Can't Afford

Under WA workplace safety legislation, employers have a duty of care to ensure electrical equipment used in the workplace is safe. Test and tag is one of the primary ways that duty is demonstrated, and without current certificates and a proper compliance record, you have no documented evidence that you’ve met that obligation.

In the event of a workplace incident involving electrical equipment, the absence of test and tag records is a significant liability. WorkSafe WA takes a serious view of non-compliance, and insurers will scrutinise your records closely when a claim is made. Getting compliant isn’t just about avoiding fines, it’s about protecting your business, your staff and your ability to operate.

Not Sure Where Your Compliance Records Stand?

We'll carry out a full assessment of your premises and equipment, provide clear documentation and advise on anything that needs attention - straightforward, no pressure.

We Test, Tag, Document and Advise - Everything in One Visit

A compliance visit from Integrity Power Solutions is planned to cover everything your premises needs, tested to the correct Australian Standard, documented properly and completed with minimal disruption to your operations. Here’s how we approach it:

We test and tag all portable electrical equipment
Every item of portable electrical equipment, power tools, extension leads, office equipment, appliances, is visually inspected and electrically tested in accordance with AS/NZS 3760. Items that pass are tagged with the test date and next due date. Items that fail are clearly identified and removed from service.

We assess your existing compliance records
Before testing, we’ll review whatever records exist for your premises, logbooks, previous certificates, service records, so we understand what’s in place, what’s lapsed and what’s missing. If no records exist, we establish them from scratch.

We test RCDs and safety switches
Where RCD testing is within scope, every safety switch at the premises is tested and trip times recorded in accordance with AS/NZS 3760. Failed devices are identified and rectification options discussed on the day.

We document everything properly
Every test result is recorded, pass, fail or removed from service, with the relevant standard, test date and next due date clearly noted. You receive a complete compliance record that demonstrates due diligence and satisfies your obligations under WA workplace safety legislation.

We advise on what needs attention
If equipment is failing, records are incomplete or additional compliance works are identified during the visit, we’ll give you a straight assessment of what’s needed, what it will cost and how urgently it should be addressed.

We can schedule your next visit
Compliance isn’t a one-off exercise, it requires regular attention. We can schedule your next test and tag or compliance visit in advance so it doesn’t fall through the cracks and your business stays continuously covered.

Had Integrity Power Solutions out for a sizeable issue at our place. Harrison sorted it without any fuss. Showed up on time, easy to deal with, and explained what was going on. Noticed a couple of smaller problems I hadn't even realised and fixed those too. great service will be calling them next time something goes wrong.

Harrison and Integrity Power Solutions Pty Ltd have been fantastic to work with. I had several electrical matters that I wanted and needed attending to in my home. Harrison provided a courteous and professional initial engagement via email, which then extended through in-person quoting and job completion. Harrison was on time, responsive, knowledgeable and able to offer advice to any relevant query thrown his way. The completed work was completed to a very high standard with all areas (being most rooms in my home) respectfully left tidy after after works were completed. I wouldn't hesitate to ask Harrison and Integrity Power Solutions to undertake any future electrical work that may be required in my home. Thank you for a job well done!

Absolutely 10/10. From the first message he was quick to respond, clear in communication, and very professional. He arrived exactly on time and completed the job to a very high standard. You can tell he takes real pride in his work and wants the result to be perfect. Very polite, very presentable, and a pleasure to deal with. It’s rare to find someone this reliable and easy to work with. I would not hesitate to recommend him and would happily hire him again.

Your Business Can't Afford a Gap in Its Compliance Records

Book a test and tag or compliance assessment with a licensed Perth electrician. We'll get your records in order, document everything properly and keep your business covered going forward.

Frequently asked questions.

1. What is test and tag and who needs it?

Test and tag is the process of visually inspecting and electrically testing portable electrical equipment to confirm it is safe to use. Under AS/NZS 3760 and WA workplace safety legislation, most businesses that use portable electrical equipment in the workplace have an obligation to ensure it is regularly tested. This includes offices, retail premises, workshops, hospitality venues, construction sites and more. If your business uses electrical equipment, from laptop chargers to power tools, test and tag almost certainly applies to you.

2. How often does equipment need to be tested?

Testing intervals under AS/NZS 3760 depend on the environment in which the equipment is used. Office equipment in a low-risk environment is typically tested every 12 months or every 5 years depending on the item type. Equipment used in harsher environments, construction, manufacturing, hospitality, requires more frequent testing, sometimes as often as every 3 months. We'll advise on the correct interval for each category of equipment at your premises during the assessment.

3. What happens to equipment that fails testing?

Yes, always. Every item tested receives a tag with the test date, next due date and tester details. You also receive a full test register documenting every item tested, the result and the relevant standard applied. This is your compliance record and your evidence of due diligence, keep it accessible.

4. Can you carry out test and tag without shutting down our business?

In most cases yes. We work systematically through the premises, testing equipment area by area to minimise disruption. For larger premises or environments where shutting down equipment would affect operations, we'll discuss scheduling with you upfront, including out-of-hours testing where required.

5. Do you provide certificates and documentation after testing?

Yes, always. Every item tested receives a tag with the test date, next due date and tester details. You also receive a full test register documenting every item tested, the result and the relevant standard applied. This is your compliance record and your evidence of due diligence, keep it accessible.

6. We have multiple sites - can you manage compliance across all of them?

Yes, and it's something we do regularly for businesses and property managers with multiple locations. We coordinate testing schedules across sites, provide consolidated documentation and give you a clear overview of compliance status across your portfolio. Get in touch to discuss what an ongoing arrangement would look like for your business.
